Two journals, v.1 (365 p.; p.304-314 missing), 1824-1831, and v.2 (188 p.), 1839-1842, describing the events on board various ships sailing from England to Australia, China and India. Ships mentioned include HMS Almorah, Hooghly, Elizabeth, Blonde and Prince Regent. Also included is an 11 p. manuscript 'Ship on fire -rescue of the crew' about a fire on board the HMS Argincourt commanded by Captain Edward Parry Nisbet on a voyage from Calcutta and Madras to England, May 1846. These journals have been published as 'A life on the ocean wave : the journals of Captain George Bayly, 1824-1844' / introduced and edited by Pamela Statham and Rica Erickson,(Melbourne University Press, Carlton, Vic., 1998).
